Are we using the legos again? Can we add to our Stop Motion projects from last week? Can we.....?
As you can see, they were raring to go on Tuesday. The #creative kids jumped right back into storytelling with legos and Stop Motion. It was fun to see them students work together as they build their characters and settings and filmed their projects. Another great group of kids have joined the #creative kids after-school club! We kicked things off with a green screen project of a book recommendation.
Students had time to practice their Green Screen skills again and Stop Motion. Each student selected a favorite animal and used one of the great PW Library resources to find out a "cool fact" to share about their animal. Students used: PebbleGo, Britannica Encyclopedia or World Book Web for their facts. Then, students selected an image of their animal from Britannic Image Quest. Some students wanted to use more than one image in their background, so they used Pic Kids to combine the multiple images.
Then, over the the Green Screen area to record. Since they used this app last week, they just jumped right in as Director, Actor and Stage Crew! Take a look at the Happenings page to see/hear the interesting animal facts. When they finished with Green Screen, students had free-choice time to create with Legos and use Stop Motion. The #creative kids created some awesome book recommendations on Tuesday! Using the Pic Kids app (the app they learned about the previous week to create their Lego Creation Cards), students created a background for their book recommendation. Using Green Screen technology, students recorded their book recommendations with their book as the background. Check them out on the HAPPENINGS page.
Today we started by creating our Lego Build Cards using the Pic Kids app. Students downloaded their pictures from Google Drive and added them to Pic Kids (aka the kid-friendly version of Pic Collage). Then students added a title, their names and their own creativity, while still remaining user-friendly. Great job of collaboration between partners!
Second, students found a favorite book from the Parkway Library their next challenge: a book recommendation. They created a visual for their background. This might include a picture of the cover of the book and their favorite picture or pictures from inside the book. WIth more than one image to share, students used their newfound knowledge of Pic Kids to bring the images together into one photo for their background. Next week, students will use green screen to create their book recommendations and share them with Parkway. Students spent some time collaborating with their partner and filling out a graphic organizer. Students were reminded to share ideas with one another and figure out how to combine and share the work. Once each team had planned what they wanted to accomplish, they created their background and gathered lego parts to construct the characters and objects they needed for their story. Finally, students got their iPad and began the Stop Motion process of moving their characters and objects one step at a time. A great big THANK YOU to James and Omar for helping other teams get their videos saved and uploaded to Google Drive, so that they can be easily shared. Check out the latest creations on the HAPPENINGS page. #Creative Kids after-school class started with some lego challenges. Students were given a lego challenge card and a bag of legos. After creating their challenge object, students partnered and combined their legos to create something new. After taking a picture of their creation, students disassembled their legos and snapped a picture of their lego bricks. These pictures were uploaded to Google Drive for next time. Next week, we'll create our own lego challenge cards. The second challenge for the night was to create a stop-motion video of their name in legos. Check out the "Happenings" page to view their videos. They turned out really cool! More challenges next week! |
